Anonymous said...: I have been working on a shoulder rest for violins .This "hinges " with polypropylene at the bottom edge of the violin.The attachment is 2 to 3 mms thick and matches the chest -to -violin- back angle.That makes a problem when it fits into a violin case.It is designed to remain attached to the instrument. The thin " flexy "chest contact section sticks away from the back.The bridge top needs 5/8ths inch clearance.I feel guilty if the bridge is raised more than a few mms.
Is there a way to adapt present cases so that extra space is available. There is a Violinist forum with a topic about closing cases where the players hate taking their "clamp-on "shoulder rests off every time it goes in the case. That would be a much bigger alteration.The other interesting question was --How do you get a large chinrest in the case without unscrewing it completely ? Some nice problems for you.; 9:59 PM
